Default Owned Myself?

Well I never planned on buying GW, so I never knew about NightFall. So I went in about 4 game shops and then I thought "hmm I should try GW since all the free mmropgs suck". I never saw NightFall in any of the shops. So I bought prophecies, then I thought "nah" and swapped it for Factions. Was it a bad idea starting on Factions 1st? :/ The main site says Prophecies is best to start on but I got like 30 other people telling me no :/

If you are just getting into the game of Guild Wars, its best to start from the original. Prophecies is much bigger than factions content wise, has a nice story line and still has some key skills for staple farming/PVE builds which are only available here.

Factions has much faster levelling i.e. getting to level 20 and is a shorter game. But in my opinion, Factions as a stand alone game i.e. without prophecies or nightfall is simply not worth it.

It's a matter of personal opinion, really. For pure "this is GW!" atmosphere, I reluctantly would concede that Prophesies would be the place to start. On the other hand, when I'm making a new char that doesn't have to be from a specific campaign, I always start it in Factions. Nightfall has a lot more of a grind, and Prophesies a lot more than Nightfall, so caveat emptor.

I started with Factions and it's still my favourite out of the three. I think it doesn't really matter which one you start out in, you'd still get a nice GW experience out of any of them.

It doesn't matter, they're all standalone games

Play.com has them all for £10 each at the moment I believe, and GW:EN as a preorder for £17.

no! Eye of the north is an expansion pack not a stand alone game. you'll need at least 1 of the 3 chapters to play it.

You can wait for it if you want, but you will need 1 of the earlier game in order to play it. Not to mention EOTN will be for those who have lv20 characters.

Doesnt he state he bought Prophecies and then swapped for Factions? so he already has one of the chapters needed for EotN...

Stick with Factions and if you like it buy Eye of the North. Factions is a pretty good chapter regardless of what people say.

If you have a HMV near you if might be worth while paying all of them there.

At the moment all 3 are GBP 8.52 at the HMV store near me.

If you are going to buy Eye of the North, I have to recommend buying Prophecy, for the story if no other reason.

Obviously, if you own Factions, that's all you need to play Eye of the North, but IMO Factions is the most "stand alone" of all the Guild Wars games; its storyline is pretty independent of the rest of the lore.

Nightfall is probably the best to start with - its the most recent chapter so you will find most players in that chapter to play with. Plus rare drops tend to be better as items in elonia are inscribable

eye of the north is an expansion - which means u must have one of the other 3 games to play EN

I would have started with Prophecies. You just can't beat the original. Also, Factions has been the least popular of all the campaigns, or at least the most specific (having a lot geared toward PvP). You'll find it hard to get teams in Factions. A lot of people still play through Prophecies, but Factions just doesn't have the populations in all the missions anymore...

I think that each new game of guild wars is getting farther and farther from its original image/gameplay. I think that prophecies is the best of all three. The main "wow, isn't this amazing" fature in factions is the PvP, more specifically Alliance Battles, 12 vs 12 is kinda fun, but that is all that i use factions for...
The "wow" for nightfall is the overplayed dervish, underestimated paragon, and heros. Witch are basically henchmen (witch are terrible) that you can teach different skills and give them different weapons. Personally i would rather use a green weapon for myself. Heros are a waste of time to level up and are basically the original henchmen witha new coat of paint.
Prophecies is the one and only "Guild Wars" Its the origninal game and the most fun. I don't really care about the story line, i am more about what you see along the way. Kind of a side mission guy instead of a main mission guy. I would rather play every quest in the game rather than speed through it. And that way you get to sight see at the same time. And Proph had the most sights to see. That is what proph. has to over, the true "Guild Wars" experience. Its also the longest, and has the best "Tutorial" in it. It has a whole mini-world devoted to new players who want to learn the game right.

They are all fine, but the only reason i play factions now is either for an elite skill or if i just want a level 20 roleplaying character fast. Never got too far into factions or nightfall. Too busy beating Proph over and over.
